THE CONTINUOUS PATH

A Black Belt Is
Not The End

In traditional Japanese martial arts, earning a black belt is called Shodan : literally meaning 'the first step.' The real study begins the moment ego yields to lifelong refinement.

PRINCIPLE 01 : SHOSHIN

The Beginner's Mind Never Expires

A black belt is simply a white belt who refused to quit. When rank is achieved, the physical techniques become second nature, opening room for deeper mental clarity, humility, and quiet discipline.

True mastery does not demand perfection; it demands relentless presence on the mat, session after session, decade after decade.

PRINCIPLE 02 : DOJO COMMUNITY

The Open Door Policy For Practitioners

Once you step onto our mats, you are part of our lineage forever. Life may pull you away for months or years, but our doors never close to returning martial artists seeking grounded practice.

Senior students mentor junior ranks without ego, sustaining an honorable culture where every practitioner gives back to the floor that built them.

"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants."

THE SUPER KICK KARATE STANDARD

BLACK BELT ISN'T ONE TEST.
IT'S THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPLETE MARTIAL ARTIST.

At Super Kick Karate, earning a Black Belt represents much more than learning techniques.
Our advanced training develops physical conditioning, traditional Goju-Ryu Karate, practical self-defence, kata and bunkai, kumite, grappling, sparring, knowledge, character and leadership.
The Black Belt grading brings these elements together and challenges candidates to demonstrate their ability while under physical and mental pressure.

FITNESS & CONDITIONING

Strength. Endurance. Mental toughness.

Our Black Belt standard challenges physical conditioning through exercises including push-ups, sit-ups, squats, burpees, mountain climbers, planks, pull-ups and explosive leg work.

KIHON : THE FOUNDATION

Stances. Blocks. Strikes. Kicks.

Advanced students demonstrate fundamentals with speed, precision, balance and control - even while physically fatigued.

SELF-DEFENCE & THROWS

Breakfalls. Throws. Takedowns.

Practical applications including rolls and breakfalls, hip and shoulder throws, leg sweeps, escapes and defensive ground skills.

KUMITE

Timing. Distance. Counterattack.

Structured and live partner skills including Sanbon Kumite, combinations, evasive movement and controlled counterattacks.

KATA & BUNKAI

Tradition with purpose.

Required Kata: Taikyoku Series, Gekisai Dai Ichi, Gekisai Dai Ni, Sanchin, Saifa, Tensho, Seienchin, Sanseiru.

Candidates also understand and demonstrate practical Bunkai - the applications contained within kata.

GRAPPLING & COMBATIVES

Escapes. Control. Composure.

Train against active resistance, maintain composure, escape difficult positions and establish control.

SPARRING

Technique under pressure.

Multiple rounds designed to test technical ability, cardiovascular endurance, adaptability, defence, strategy and fighting spirit.

CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP

More than how to fight.

Understand the history and philosophy of Goju-Ryu, lifelong training, and the responsibility of the belt.

'How will I contribute to the dojo and the students coming after me?'

PURPOSE & PRACTICE

THIS IS WHAT BLACK BELT
MAT TIME IS FOR.

You don't have to work on everything every night. Black Belt & Advanced Mat Time gives our experienced students an opportunity to continue developing these areas throughout the year.

  • Work on your kata.
  • Improve your conditioning.
  • Train on the bags.
  • Practice self-defence.
  • Work with a partner.
  • Grapple.
  • Spar.
  • Stretch and recover.
  • Prepare for your next grading.
  • Or simply come back and move again.

Whether you're preparing for Black Belt, maintaining the Black Belt you've already earned, or returning after years away, there is something for you to work on.

DISCIPLINES & TRAINING PATHS

WHAT CAN I DO
DURING MAT TIME?

Open mat hours provide returning practitioners dedicated floor space and direct senior mentorship to hone individual martial goals without rigid constraints.

01 / FOUNDATION

TRADITIONAL KARATE & KATA

Refine classical Shotokan patterns, kinetic hip alignment, and explosive kime. Rebuild structural precision through high-repetition kihon and black belt bunkai exploration.

  • Kata sequencing and transition mechanics
  • Targeted chambering and striking power
  • Practical solo and partnered bunkai

02 / APPLICATION

CONTROLLED KUMITE & TIMING

Step into calibrated sparring created to sharpen reaction time, distance management (ma-ai), and situational composure without ego in a controlled, respectful setting.

  • Distance control and evasive footwork
  • Continuous and point-based match simulation
  • Counter-striking and feint integration

03 / ADAPTATION

GRAPPLING & CLOSE DEFENSE

Bridge striking fundamentals into close-quarters clinching, standing off-balancing (kuzushi), joint locks, and positional mat defense for total martial versatility.

  • Clinch entry and standing takedown defense
  • Joint lock control and positional escapes
  • Ground mobility and situational recovery

THE CONTINUOUS PATH

EVERY BLACK BELT STARTED
WITH ONE CLASS.

The beginner learning their first stance and the Black Belt refining a kata may be at very different stages — but they’re travelling the same path.

During selected training periods, Super Kick Karate can divide the dojo so introductory students receive appropriate instruction while our advanced students and Black Belts continue their own training.

This creates an environment where new students can see what years of training can become — and experienced students have an opportunity to help build the next generation.

BEGINNERS STARTING THEIR JOURNEY.
BLACK BELTS CONTINUING THEIRS.

NEW TO KARATE? START HERE

Beginners Are
Welcome Too

You do not need prior experience or athletic prestige to step onto our mats. In traditional Japanese dojo culture, beginners and seasoned black belts train in the same room. By practicing alongside masters, you absorb correct posture, quiet focus, and disciplined rhythm from day one.

Our senior instructors personally guide your foundational stances, breathing techniques, and first katas in a respectful, ego-free environment built entirely on mutual encouragement.

No previous training required • Clean loaner uniform provided for your first class

NO EXPECTATIONS : NO JUDGMENT

COME BACK EXACTLY
AS YOU ARE

THE MAT DOES NOT REMEMBER HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN AWAY.

You do not get in shape before stepping into the dojo. The discipline of stepping onto the mat is what restores your strength, stamina, and focus.

LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR

The single hardest technique in martial arts is bowing through the entryway after months or years away. We recognize the hesitation: wondering if your cardio will hold up, if your kicks are still crisp, or if you will be judged for where you currently stand.

Every practitioner here shares that exact journey. No one expects you to perform at your peak on day one. Fitness is not a prerequisite for training; it is the natural consequence of consistent practice. All that is required is putting your uniform on and taking the first step.

  • Zero baseline fitness required to resume your journey
  • Self-paced progression with structured technical guidance
  • A respectful community centered on mutual growth, never comparison

  • Direct 1-on-1 pedagogical mentorship under Sensei Vic
  • Advanced breakdown of Kata mechanics and sparring biomechanics
  • Official Dojo Coaching Credentials and Dan-grade leadership status

Open exclusively to Brown Belts (1st Kyu) and Dan ranks in good standing.
