OUR ROOTS RUN DEEP
The Lineage Continues
The story of Super Kick Karate began long before our dojo opened its doors.
Our roots reach back through generations of martial artists, teachers, pioneers and traditions that helped shape the karate we practise today.
At the foundation of our Goju-Ryu roots stands Chōjun Miyagi, founder of Goju-Ryu Karate. Along the way, the teachings and influence of remarkable martial artists including Gogen Yamaguchi, Masami Tsuruoka, Hidetaka Nishiyama, Koyama Tanken, Fumio Demura and Morio Higaonna became part of the wider martial arts world that influenced our teachers and our own development.
These names are more than history to Super Kick Karate. Over the years, we have had the privilege of training with, learning from, or being influenced by several of these remarkable martial artists and the generations they helped shape.
Within our own Canadian story, Richard Kim and Benny Allen form important connections leading to Don Warrener — Vic Granic’s Sensei and one of the pioneers of Canadian karate.
Through decades of training, Vic carried forward the lessons, traditions, discipline, fighting spirit and knowledge he received from his teachers and the many martial artists who influenced his journey. Those experiences became part of the foundation upon which Super Kick Karate was built.
But lineage is not simply a list of names, and it does not belong only to the past.
It lives every time knowledge is passed from teacher to student.
Today, those roots continue to grow through our black belts and coaches, through the students training on our floor today, and eventually through the generations that will follow them.
